What's on Chip's mind?

God knows I love the music that Chip Taylor has written (Wild Thing, Angel of the Morning, Try, Just a Little Bit Harder), and all of the work he has done with Carrie Rodriguez, but I've listened to New Song of Freedom half a dozen times and I don't know if I understand the perspective. For sure, he's asking folks to rid themselves of divisive idealogy and get together, and he'd like the leaders of the world to concentrate on problems that matter. But he seems to praise, with equanimity, the leadership of Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, John Kennedy and FDR. He worries, lyrically, about the environment and the loss of record stores. And what's with the Steve Earle comment? The video is even more confusing. Is he really saying John McCain is the moral equivalent of Dwight Eisenhower, and Hillary Clinton analogous to Eleanor Roosevelt? Or is he saying the opposite. Help!

You can find the video here, but I've unembedded it on this site because it plays automatically, and it seems to have download issues.
