Dems fund the war, again

On Friday, Congress sent Bush a Pentagon and war funding bill for exactly what the Commanderin-chief wanted. The vote in the Senate was 90-3. That means that lots of Democrats voted for it, largely so they couldn't be accused later of not supporting the troops. That rusty canard has been dismissed by the public for months, but the lamebrains in Washington cling to it like lifevest in a pool of flaming gasoline. All the Presidential candidates from the Senater were not there to vote, conveniently.

Remember when Ralph Nader was excoriated for declaring that there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between the Republican and Democratic candidates for the presidency. Remember?

Ruf tuf Harry runs away again

Remember when Harry Reid declared there'd be no more funding for the war in Iraq without a timetable for withdrawal.

Well, he really didn't mean it.
With Harry at the helm, the house and senate are about to pass a funding bill which includes increased funding for domestic programs ($11 billion down from $22 million) and $30-$50 billion for the war.

And after trampling on their own vows, the Democrats may be slapped again, by the President, who seems unlikely to sign the bill. Seems like he feels it's too much for domestic programs and not enough for the war.

Ruff tuff Harry puts his foot down, again

Okay Mr. President. This time we mean it. We're not going to fund the war anymore unless you bring the troops home.

Or, you veto the bill, and we can't sustain the veto because we don't have 60 votes.

Or you make a speech and call us unpatriotic.

Or you convince your friends Diane Feinstein and Chuck Schumer to stand with you again.

Or you tell people how I voted for this war, and allowed it to be funded for five years, and that I'm just as responsible as you for the total cost of the war...

Or....

Listen, Harry, by now we all know that you could pull the funding tomorrow. Without a bill and without a vote. But you haven't. And you probably won't.

We're tired of the grandstanding. We'd like for you to actually do something.

People are dying every day because you haven't.
